Pre-Op Instructions

Pre-op Instructions for Cosmetic Surgeries

Begin taking Vitamin C 1000 mg. a day 7 days before your surgery.

Do not take any aspirin, Vitamin E, anti-inflammatory agents (Advil, Aleve, Motrin) or any herbal supplements 7 days before surgery.  If you are taking any blood thinners, please let the doctor know.

At the pre-op visit, you will be given the following medications:
A sedative- take 1 the night before and 1 on the way to the office
An antibiotic- start 24 hours before surgery and continue until the end of the prescription
A pain medication- bring to surgery and for use after surgery as needed
An acid reducer- take the night before surgery and again the day of the surgery

Some cosmetic surgeries do require pre-op lab work.  The labs will need to be performed 7 days prior to the scheduled surgery date to have the results ready for surgery.

For surgery:  If you are having a facial procedure, you will need to wear a front button-up or wide-neck opening shirt (low neck clothing is best.)  Liposuction patients should wear loose fitting clothing (sweats or knit fabrics are great.)  All patients are requested to have no solid food intake after midnight the night prior to the procedure.  Please drink plenty of fluids the day prior to surgery.  However, no liquids are allowed 6 hours prior to the procedure.  (If you are arriving at 8:00 a.m., no fluids after 2:00 a.m.; if you are arriving at 12:00 p.m., no fluids after 6:00 a.m.)  Only small sips of water are allowed if you need to take any medication.  Please have a phone number for your ride so that we can notify them towards the end of the procedure.

For liposuction:  If you are having liposuction, you will be given an EZ Scrub pad to use the night before surgery and another one for the day of the surgery for cleansing the surgery areas.

Supplies needed after surgery:  4X4 sterile gauze, Polysporin or Bacitracin Ointment over the counter.  For liposuction patients only:  Pull up Depends and Sanitary Napkins.
